It’s Time to Adjust Your Knowledge

Posted On February 1, 2022

Hi, I’m Bryon Bromley, and this is my very first post.

You may wonder who I am, and why you should read any further. Well, I am a lifelong car enthusiast with a career in auto insurance claims. In dealing with accidents every day, I built an understanding of how accidents and insurance work. I also have a passion for writing and communication, and I want to share my valuable knowledge with you.

There are a few main goals I have with my blog. First, I want to explain how accident liability works – who is at fault and why. There are basic elements of liability that apply in most collisions. But as with any legal issue, everything depends on the situation as to how these elements are weighed. While most people have a fair understanding of traffic laws, they don’t always understand accident fault. Part of this is because of our individual perspective – we rationalize our own behaviors while pointing out other’s flaws. And part of this is due to a lack of experience. It’s not every day you’re in a car crash, so you don’t build the same knowledge bank as someone who deals with accidents every day. I’m starting with an ongoing series on various accident types and how liability applies.

Second, I want to get into how insurance companies handle claims. This is something most people don’t know until they go through it. In fact, it was my own curiosity about an accident experience that made me interested in an insurance career. My sister was injured in a car accident many years ago, and I heard second hand about how her claim was handled and all the problems she ran into. I saw how a lack of clear explanation can really be a detriment to an average person trying to navigate their first accident claim. I was interested in who makes all these decisions that have such an affect on people’s lives. This eventually led me to become an insurance adjuster.

Third, I want to help apply my knowledge of car accidents to your driving habits, making you a safer driver, and leading to a better roadway for us all. It’s a common joke in the industry to point out that insurance adjusters drive like insurance adjusters – we tend to be more alert, we look at every intersection as a possible catastrophe, we pay attention to exactly where danger will come from in any situation. Countless times I have driven through the scene of an accident I have handled. I drive down the same lanes as my insureds or claimants, replaying their statements in my head as I go, knowing exactly what went wrong. I believe this makes me a better, more cautious driver, and I believe this can help you as well.

Having been an enthusiast most of my life also contributes to my perspective. I have worked on cars and trucks as a hobby, and I have loved driving anything I could get my hands on. I have sought out widely varied driving experiences, from the high speed and high precision competition of autocross to the messy adventures of off-roading in extreme conditions. I have picked up tips from great drivers along the way, and I plan to mix those fun nuggets into my posts as well.

So whatever brought you here, welcome. I sincerely appreciate your time and attention, and I hope I can provide you with some value you would not find elsewhere.

Let’s adjust your knowledge, adjust your approach, and adjust your skills.

Again, this project is new to me, so I welcome your feedback. What questions would you like answered? What experiences would you like to know about? What problems can I help you work through? Leave me a comment or send me an email, I look forward to interacting with you as I go.
